SEATTLE — A driver struck two cars at an intersection, then backed into a store sparking a fire Sunday night, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

The 34-year-old driver of the car was killed. The 26-year-old passenger is in stable condition and was taken into custody, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

SPD was called to the 9200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South just before 9:30 p.m. to investigate a hit-and-run collision.

According to witnesses, the suspect vehicle was heading south on MLK Jr. Way when it crashed into two vehicles stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Merton Way South. After the crash, the suspect vehicle reversed northbound in the southbound lanes.

The suspect vehicle backed into a building, causing a fire.

When Seattle Fire crews arrived, they pulled the vehicle out of the building to put out the flames.

The passenger was able to exit the vehicle, but the driver was trapped and declared dead at the scene.
