Global sustainable energy provider MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) announced the completion of the 12.3-MW project, Parque Solar Los Girasoles, located in Colombia's region of Norte de Santander.
The solar power plant is projected to generate approximately 23 GWh of solar energy annually, which will help prevent 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions over its lifespan. The energy generated by the project will be sold to a leading Colombian energy trading firm and electricity supplier, Spectrum, through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), generating a revenue of around $1.3 million per year. "We are proud to partner with a global sustainable energy provider to power up a solar PV plant in Colombia. The project will help the country make significant strides toward achieving its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050," said André Fraga, CEO of Spectrum.
Fraga also stated that the project will play a crucial part in advancing the company's energy transition, helping it become Colombia's first 100% renewable energy supplier.
MPCES invested $11 million in equity to develop and construct the project and intends to secure debt financing post-commissioning.
Parque Solar Los Girasoles marks the third project in MPCES' portfolio to begin operations this year. Colombian company Socolco S.A.S. served as the engineering and construction (E&C) contractor for this project. The solar modules used were supplied by Trina Solar, and the inverters by Huawei.
